I developed an instructional explainer video using Vyond to guide technology novices through the Zoom application.

This project was created for a fictional company wanting an eLearning course to improve employee morale. The client had noticed that their employees seemed lazy and unmotivated. While observing and conversing with the employees, it was clear they weren't "lazy." They were overwhelmed with the recent adoption of various applications, "Zoom" being one of them. Creating an instructional video would better suit the needs of the learners.

After the action items were identified, I used interconnected boxes in Canva to create a "mind map." This helped me see the relationships between different concepts and prioritize the order in which I would present them in the instructional video. I was able to create a design that was aligned with the learning objectives and the learners' needs.

Moving on to the development stage, I drafted a text-based storyboard for the instructional video, outlining character conversational and professional dialogue and visual elements. This served as a blueprint for the video's narrative structure and pacing, ensuring a cohesive and engaging learning experience for the target audience.

Continuing in the development stage, I brainstormed the design of the instructional video by creating a series of hand-drawn mock-ups to visualize key scenes and interactions for the instructional video. These sketches served as a visual guide for the final product in Vyond, ensuring alignment with the action items and learning objectives.

Utilizing the free trial in Vyond, I began developing my instructional video. Visual elements, including graphics, were meticulously created or sourced from Canva and Vyond's stock image and shape libraries. All items on the "phone" were screenshots from my iPhone going through the action items.

If I could do it again
While the video ultimately proved to be effective in providing learners with the necessary instructions, the development process was a cyclical design-development process, including a learning curve with the Vyond platform. To enhance future instructional video projects, I would consider the following:If I could do it again
- Platform Familiarization: Invest time learning the capabilities and best practices of the chosen video creation tool, such as Vyond, before starting the development process.
- Data Tracking: Incorporate mechanisms for data tracking, such as user engagement metrics or feedback surveys, to measure the video's effectiveness and identify areas for improvement.
